Lord Jesus, I want to know You personally. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life to You and ask You to come in as my Savior and Lord. Take control of my life. Thank You for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Make me the kind of person You want me to be.

Pet Owner Pressures FDA To Further Investigate Toxins In Cat And Dog Food
http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/itchmo/seattle_news/~3/144691066/pet-owner-pressures-fda-to-further-investigate-toxins-in-cat-and-dog-food-2261 Posted: 16 Aug 2007 03:00 AM CDT Don Earl filed a Text of Petition for Writ of Mandamus against the FDA on August 9. Earl’s cat chuckles died from eating tainted pet food. http://www.itchmo.com/don-earl-files-lawsuit-against-menu-foods-and-kroger-1674 This action is an effort to force the FDA to properly conduct a credible investigation into the findings by independent labs of toxins other than melamine in pet food. Also, the action is calling for the prevention of the FDA’s program of systematically destroying essential pet food evidence. Issues raised in the action include: The FDA focused on melamine, to the exclusion of contrary evidence and expert testimony showing melamine is virtually nontoxic, even at levels many times higher than that found in pet food samples. The FDA kept secret for three months a recall by rendering company, Darling International, of 1.4 million pounds of a meat protein ingredient commonly used in pet food, which was contaminated with melamine. The FDA appears to be following a predetermined script, which is based exclusively on unsupportable theories related to melamine from China. The FDA has moved to aggressively discount credible evidence which if properly investigated would uncover the source of toxins responsible for the deaths of thousands of companion animals. The FDA has controlled, withheld and otherwise manipulated critical information, and destroyed essential evidence, to the detriment of pet owners who suffered damages caused by the poisoned pet food epidemic. Subsidies main article: agricultural subsidy Governments pay subsidies to encourage domestic production of a good. Such subsidies are necessary when a government wants to alter the free-market outcome in product markets. The subsidies transfer some costs of production from producers to the government, allowing production at above-market costs. The effect of Western food subsidies [360$ billion] is overwhelmingly to reduce world prices. For decades the 3rd world has earned only half the free market price for food, its primary product. Consumption subsidies can also be used to alter markets. A consumption subsidy offsets a portion of the purchase price of a product. [edit] Price controls Price floors or ceilings set a minimum or maximum price for a product. Price controls alter free-market outcomes by encouraging over-production by a price floor or over-consumption by a price ceiling. [edit] Import barriers A government can erect trade barriers to limit the quantity of goods imported (in the case of a quota) or enact tariffs to raise the domestic price of imported products. These barriers give preference to domestic producers. [edit] Objectives of market intervention

Again, I reccomend NO Dog Foods. Go to homefeeding. -Scottish Terriers Mama ---- ABOUT THE PET FOOD LIST This is a list of pet foods NOT on the recall list. The companies on our list have made statements that their pet food is not affected by the Menu Foods recall. The list is intended as a starting point for your own research - it is a list we are compiling of pet foods deemed safe by the pet food companies themselves. It is neither an endorsement of any pet foods listed, nor is it a complete list of all pet foods not on the recall list. And, even though a brand is listed, we cannot guarantee the food is safe. The pet food companies are the only ones who can make that statement. EVEN IF A BRAND YOU FEED IS ON THIS LIST, VERIFY IT WITH THE PET FOOD COMPANY. Links to their websites have been provided when possible. For those with just the business name listed, we have obtained information from their websites. We will be contacting them for further information and will update the list appropriately as soon as possible. WHAT IS AND IS NOT ON THE LIST We are listing pet food brands that have NOT had recalls due to the recent recall. If certain products sold under a particular brand name on our list are recalled, we reserve the right to remove the entire brand even if only specific products have been recalled. Alternatively, we may make a notation that some of their products have been recalled. See the Del Monte listing as an example. GO TO THE LIST OF FOODS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST Due to the length of the list, it is now three pages. A - H | I - Q | R - Z [ updated April 18, 11:40 pm ] A brief description of updates to the list can be found on our forum. You'll also find recall related information on our blog at PetsitUSA.com Before feeding any food on this list verify it with the pet food company. Links to their websites have been provided when possible.

Pet Food Commission Formed
Foxes guarding the henhouse! Media Release The Pet Food Institute (PFI) - Pet Food Industry Lobby ... " New National Pet Food Commission formed The Pet Food Institute (PFI) has announced the formation of the National Pet Food Commission, composed of nationally-recognized veterinarians, toxicologists, state and federal regulators and nutritionists, to further strengthen industry procedures and safeguards in light of recent pet food recalls. The industry-government partnership will have two main goals: To investigate the cause of the current petfood recall. To recommend steps the industry and government should take to further build on safety and quality standards already in place. Information on the National Pet Food Commission's charge and a complete list of commissioners are available http://www.petfoodreport.com/ At the conclusion of its work, the National Pet Food Commission will issue a report outlining its findings and offering its recommendations to the industry and regulators. PFI President Duane Ekedahl announced formation of the National Pet Food Commission today during his testimony before the US SenateAppropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration and Related Agencies. Ekedahl was joined at the hearing by Dr. Angele Thompson, an expert in nutritional biochemistry and a member of the American Academy of Veterinary Nutrition, who will chair the National Pet Food Commission. Dr. Thompson said the commission will have its first meeting in the coming days. ..." Take a look at the people selected to be on this commission; not exactly unbiased representation!

The Truth About Pet Food: Precious Pets Org
http://www.preciouspets.org/truth.htm 'What's Really in Your Pet's Food'. (Don't read if you have a weak stomach) What's Really for Dinner? The Truth About Commercial Pet Food by Tina Perry Cow brains. Sheep guts. Chicken heads. Road kill. Rancid grain. These are a few of the so-called nutritionally balanced ingredients found in the commercial pet food served to companion animals every day. More than 95 percent of US companion animals derive their nutritional needs from a single source: processed pet food. When people think of pet food, many envision whole chickens, choice cuts of beef, fresh grains, and all the nutrition that a dog or cat may ever need -- images that pet food manufacturers promote in their advertisements. What these companies do not reveal is that instead of whole chickens they have substituted chicken heads, feet, and intestines. Those choice cuts of beef are really cow brains, tongues, esophagi, fetal tissue dangerously high in hormones, and possibly diseased and even cancerous meat. Those whole grains have had the starch removed for corn starch powder and the oil extracted for corn oil, or they are hulls and other remnants from the milling process. Grains used that are truly whole have usually been deemed unfit for human consumption because of mold, contaminants, poor quality, or poor handling practices. Pet food is one of the worlds most synthetic edible products, containing virtually no whole ingredients.... Please see the site for a must read of the rest> |

ASPCA Issues Urgent Advisory As Pet Food Recall Widens Contaminant Found In New Protein Supplement—Not Just Wheat Gluten—for Pet Food
Urges Pet Parents to Stay Alert and Aware to New Developments in the Recall NEW YORK, April 18, 2007—The ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) today urgently reminded pet parents that the pet food recall crisis, which started almost five weeks ago, is far from over—and, as such, pet parents need to stay alert to new developments as well as the health of their pets. “Until the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has conclusively identified all the contaminants in the affected pet food, where they came from, and which products they were used in, we cannot consider this crisis over,” said Dr. Steven Hansen, a board-certified toxicologist and senior vice president with the ASPCA, who manages the ASPCA’s Animal Poison Control Center (APCC), located in its Midwest Office in Urbana, Ill. “Further, the actual link between the adverse effects of melamine and the illnesses or deaths of so many pets around the country is still not clear and, as a result, what exactly is sickening and killing our pets is still a mystery,” said Dr. Hansen. Sugar-Free Items
NEW YORK (Sept. 30) - Keep those sugarless treats out of Fido's reach. Veterinarians warned on Friday that a commonly used sweetener might cause liver failure in dogs, and perhaps even kill them. Their report in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association appears to strengthen the suspected link between the sugar substitute xylitol, thought to make dogs sick, and possible liver failure. Xylitol, a naturally occurring product, is found in many sugar-free chewing gums, candies, baked goods and toothpastes. Researchers Sharon Gwaltney-Brant and Eric Dunayer with staff at a poison unit of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Urbana, Illinois, gathered information on eight dogs treated between 2003 and 2005 after eating products containing xylitol. Each dog became ill, and five died or had to be put down because of liver failure, possibly from ingesting xylitol. One dog who had to be euthanized had eaten four large, chocolate-frosted muffins containing about 1 pound of xylitol. "People don't think sugar-free gum can kill their dog. I didn't before I got into this. But this is something people should be aware of," Gwaltney-Brant, who co-authored the study with Dunayer, said in a statement. Gwaltney-Brant said for dogs, ingesting even a small amount of xylitol can trigger significant insulin release, which drops their blood sugar and can be fatal. "A 22-pound dog who consumes one gram of xylitol should be treated," she said, adding that further studies were needed to definitely establish a cause-and-effect relationship. |

http://www.scratchingsandsniffings.com/2007/03/poisonous_peopl.html Poisonous People Food and other Household HazardsThe American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals' (ASPCA), Poison Control Center, has now recognized over 50 cases of grape and raisin poisoning in dogs. They are thought to be toxic to cats, too. Some reports in the Veterinary litereature indicate that as little as 2 grams of raisins for every 2 kg(2.2lbs) body weight can be toxic. In one case report in a dog, acute (sudden) renal (kidney) failure occurred after eating only 10 to 12 grapes. Apparently there is a substance in grapes and raisins that is toxic to the kidneys of dogs and cats. So, keep those healthy snacks to yourself. The ASPCA site has a great article on the top ten household hazards for pets. Check it out and be prepared to move some things around in the house. http://www.aspca.org/site/PageServer?pagename=pro_apcc_news030507 |

Food Supply
Go through your human foods and pet foods and supplies I highly suggest: 1. You go through your frozen, dry, and canned foods human and pet. 2. Discontinue eating all food with wheat gluten and rice concentrate. 3. Save the food and packaging. 4. Save your grocery and pet food receipts. 5. Subscribe to itchmo and FDA alert lists you receive in your email. Itchmo adds alerts before the FDA for both human and pet products. 6. Consider homefeeding for all pets. 7. Do a search for human food and other substances you should not feed your pets before making pet food. 8. Check all pet treats, supplements, and products such as Heartguard preventative for rice or wheat gluten. Discontinue feeding these to your pets immediately. 9. If you suspect your animal has been poisoned join the Menu Foods Class Action Yahoo Group (other foods also) so you can keep up on the very first reports of sickenings and pet deaths both pulled and not yet pulled from shelves. 10. If you suspect your animal has been poisoned enter your pet's records on the Menu Foods Class Action Yahoo Group Database, The Pet Connection Database, and the FDA Database. Information listed above can be verified by the FDA, various blogs, and Menu Foods Yahoo Group. 11. Be aware the news media is extremely slow in reporting on this important human and pet poisoning story! They are ill informed and thus far have failed to cover recalls or potential recalls as deeply as they should. 12. Make sure you write, call, the media and your direct representation after you have done your research to the food supply that is in possible jeopardy. 13. Don't depend on 1- 12 do your own research! Come to your own educated well informed decisions. Knowledge is power and you may just be saving your families lives. Better too cautious or be sorry later. |
